He’s Making Diamonds Review

Have you ever felt like you’re in a furnace? When you’re under so much pressure that you feel like you’re going to crack? In those times it’s hard to see God working. These are the places you’d least expect to find God’s fingerprints.

In a fallen world suffering, pain, and hardships are a normal part of life. Trials come to everyone. But even bad things can be used for good, depending on our response. The devil wants to use these things to harden our hearts and pull us apart from God. But God wants to use them to shape us into His image and draw us nearer to Himself.

I have a friend who has battled with chronic illness. She has come face to face with countless questions that are not easy to answer. The ones that are so tough, that you’re even afraid to ask God. Things like: How could a loving God let His children suffer? Where is God in my suffering? Is it right to ask for healing when sickness seems to be God’s will for me?

But throughout her journey with Lyme disease, Sara has come to recognize God’s handiwork all along the journey of sickness. In her new book He’s Making Diamonds: A Teen’s Thoughts on Faith in Chronic Illness, she unpacks what she’s learned through her experience with chronic illness.

I had the pleasure of reading this book during the stages of its development, and I have to say, it truly is a gem. Sara is very insightful, wise, and transparent, and funny. She draws you in, makes you think, laugh, ponder, and smile. Over all, it’s a great read that makes you want to come back again for a second pass.

The kind of faith this book is soaked with—that raw, strong, not-playing-around, tested kind of faith—scares the enemy. We all go through times when our faith is tested, and that’s what this book is all about. Trusting God, even under extreme pressure.

Whether you are dealing with chronic illness or not, and whether you are a teen or not, this is a book you need to read. Not only will it help you understand and sympathize with those who struggle with chronic illness, it will leave you with a strengthened faith, deep sense of joy, and of strong, real hope.
