Eat freely of the tree of life

God made everything perfect. He made countless trees with fruit, and many pleasant to look at. And He let Adam and Eve eat whatever they wanted, except for fruit from one tree.


And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” -Genesis 2:16-17


When the snake talked to Eve, he tried to convince her that God was mean. That He just wanted to keep the tree of the knowledge of good and evil to Himself. That He didn’t love them.

But the truth is, He was not being selfish! God had their best interest in mind when He told them not to eat the fruit from that one tree.


“Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; -Genesis 2: 16


God let them eat from every tree in the garden, except for the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. That means that they were allowed to eat from the tree of life. But as soon as they ate the forbidden fruit, their spirit died, and God had to kick them out lest they eat from the tree of life again and live forever dead in spirit.

But He didn’t leave us there. He wanted us to be able to eat of the tree of life again.

He went through a lot of trouble, pain, and heartache to fix the relationship we broke. And if we are willing, He is promising to give us fruit from the tree of life in heaven where we will live forever with Him the way He designed it to be.


In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. -Revelation 22: 2
