3 reasons to study

It’s that time of year again. Can you believe it’s here already? Backpacks, pencils, and notebooks fill aisles at the store. Clothes stores have special going-back-to-school sales. Lists are carefully checked to make sure we have everything we need to succeed this school year.

Haven’t you wondered why we go to school? There are plenty of reasons out there, just ask your parents! I’m sure they can tell you some. But without a God-centered mindset, we really don’t have a reason to study at all!

As we enter this semester, I want to prepare you to succeed by explaining 3 reasons why studying is good.

They are God’s subjects

God made everything. From the stars in the sky, to the grass on the ground, and from birds to birch trees, God designed them all.  Everything brings glory to Him, including subjects.

God gave us math so we can count our every blessing. He gave us science so we can discover what He made. He gave us history so we can see how obedience and disobedience lead to different consequences. He gave us language so that we can have a relationship with Him.

Subjects are important

Subjects are not isolated from each other, and neither is one more important than another. On the contrary, they all interrelate to each other. They all proceed from God, and they all point back to Him. The only reason we have specific subjects is so that finite humans can grasp the infinite God.

Subjects are reflections of God’s character; each one shows us a part of who He is. To eliminate one is like taking one of God’s characteristics away. It doesn’t work. It leaves you with an incomplete, false picture of reality.

God calls us to study

God not only made all the subjects for us to study, He gave us a brain, so we can! He can’t wait for us to find out all the amazing things He made. He wants us to study His word, and world diligently, and through that, discover more about Him.

It is the glory of God to conceal a matter,
But the glory of kings is to search out a matter. -Proverbs 25:2

So why do we study? To learn about our great, and awesome God who wants to have a relationship with us, that’s why.

As you prepare for this semester, please don’t forget to have a teachable heart, remember why to study, and do it as unto the Lord. And even if you are an adult, and don’t go to school anymore, take some time to wonder at all that God has made.
